About Us

Karmrath (RNI 65285) is an independent magazine that has been in continuous publication since 2004.

The magazine was founded by senior journalist Late Shri Anil Sadhak, who was known across India for his fearless and uncompromising journalism. He believed journalism had value only when it stood with those who had little power, and when it questioned authority without fear, favour, or convenience.

Karmrath emerged from that belief. From its earliest days, the magazine sought to create space for voices from the ground, voices that were routinely ignored or sidelined, and to ensure that their experiences and concerns reached beyond their immediate contexts.

For more than two decades, the publication has endured largely through commitment rather than resources. Despite persistent financial challenges, the team has continued to publish with independence and consistency, holding firm to the idea that journalism must remain accountable to the public, not to influence or pressure.

With the launch of its digital platform, Karmrath is extending its reach to a wider and more global audience. This expansion is not a departure from its roots, but a continuation of the same purpose: to amplify marginalised voices, document lived realities, and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.

Karmrath continues to grow as a collective effort. We are seeking writers, contributors, researchers, funders, and collaborators who share a commitment to independent journalism and are willing to support work that is often uncomfortable, unpopular, and necessary.
