Aspiring journalists or MediaPlex or Networker, especially students of institutions are nurtured to track government, politics, policy and infotainment. Inside view of media incorp rarely make the cut. Sometimes, the take away in orientation programmes for the students make it to the two column or three column news. As entire nurturing happens in private enclaves with their own rules, they are not of public interest and for that reason, they are not of interest for widely circulated and read newspaper and media houses.
However, this changed in the ‘Abhyuday 2025’, when the three-day orientation and inaugural program for the 2025–26 academic session of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism in Bhopal became aspiring student interaction with people who matters for the society from the fields of creativity and beyond.
MCNUJC’s story is over three-decade journey of expansion, innovation, recognition and presence in country’s prime-time discourse on scales large and small. Located close to Bada Talab (Upper Lake), the varsity was conceptualised as a place for aspiring journalists to get the booster shot of having in the public communication sphere often been caught in the human well-being crossfire which engulfs holding someone guilty until proven innocent, and also dishonouring the verdict of the people who elected them. Named after Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi, the great editor, poet, litterateur and freedom fighter it delivered professionals in the fields of Communication, Media, and IT disciplines with no interest in the contest of bajarwad and badlawvad.
The message from Abhyuday 2025 is clear: “Communication and journalism have the power to magnify or deepen the impact of any event,” said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav addressing ‘Abhyuday 2025’, the orientation and inaugural program for the 2025–26 academic session of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication.
He added, “journalism has been a form of communication from Ramayan to Mahabharat be it Lord Hanuman's dialogues in Ramayan or Yaksha questions in Mahabharata”.
So, in a country as diverse as ours, communicators today have to be attentive to the style and mood to grasp how sentences are formed and meanings generated in unalike languages.
Renowned poet Dr. Kumar Vishwas, addressing the students, referred to Chanakya’s art of communication. He said that communication rooted in respect for common people and diverse cultures is the most effective. He described Hanuman Ji and Angad as masters of communication. He advised journalism students to be clear about their goals, excel in their discipline and uphold neutrality and honesty as their highest priorities.
This means, their outputs must be intricate works in dialogical relationships with deep understanding on pasts and of modern Indian builders who are articulating a new approach in nation building.
Finally, words to aspiring Networker to help shape a new recall manual on bajarwad and badlawvad came from Vijay Manohar Tiwari, vice chancellor (Kulguru): the assessment of any writing, communication should examine the views of your own with substantive content clarity and not of any obligations.
At the end, Abhyuday 2025 will remain effective as long as the exhibition “100 Years: 100 Headlines”, showcasing front-page newspaper coverage of landmark national events before and after Independence remains alive through active review, transparent revision, and structured engagement as mirror to confront our prejudices. And acquiring such literacy will empower the students to discover India as a monument without walls and boundaries.
